The Independent Speculator Looks Beyond the Fed to Fiscal Policy Ahead

Resource Talks' Antonio Atanasov started this interview by asking me what The Independent Speculator thinks the Fed will do this week. He knows I don't like to make big predictions, but we talked about what seems likely and what will be important to watch for in the FOMC statement. For whatever it's worth, I think the Fed won't want to rock the boat just before an election. That took us to a discussion of inflation, the exorbitant privilege the US is accorded as the issuer of the de facto world reserve currency, and what happens when that goes into reverse. A key point I brought up is not to forget that monetary policy is only one driver in this political economy we struggle with. Fiscal policy is also very important with far-reaching implications for commodities, even in a recession. We also discussed Tax Loss Season and why, as much as I like gold, silver, and copper, uranium stocks are the only ones I might buy in the immediate future.Ed. Note: My part started at about 14:45 into this recording, but Antonio's intro is worth a listen.
